Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics
Roots of Empathy was first introduced into Newfoundland and Labrador in the fall of 2001 in eight classrooms in the southwest region of Newfoundland.
In the 2008-09 school year in Newfoundland and Labrador:
- 1,575 children are participating in the program, an increase of 21% over the previous year.
- 64 Instructors are delivering the program. These Instructors are supported provincially by three Mentors, four Key Point People (local program coordinators), one Trainer, one Senior Mentor and the provincial office team.
- ROE is offered in urban, rural and remote communities and in schools with high aboriginal populations.
- ROE is delivered to over 70 Aboriginal children in the province.
Since 2001, Roots of Empathy has reached 5,300 Newfoundland and Labrador students
