Nova Scotia Statistics


Roots of Empathy was first introduced into Nova Scotia in the fall of 2003 in 10 classrooms.

In the 2008-09 school year in Nova Scotia:

  • 1,525 children in 61 classrooms in 51 schools are participating in the program.
  • 54 ROE Instructors are delivering the program. These Instructors are supported provincially by six Mentors, four Key Point People (local program coordinators) and two Trainers.
  • The program is offered in English, French and French Immersion classrooms. It is delivered in urban, rural and remote communities, in schools with high-aboriginal populations as well as schools on-reserve.
  • Nova Scotia is delivering a total of 3 French language programs across the province; two programs in French immersion classrooms and one program in a French school board.
  • ROE is delivering three programs to Aboriginal children on-reserve in Nova Scotia.

Since 2003, Roots of Empathy has reached 6,300 students in Nova Scotia
