    Seattle-area schools were the first to host Roots of Empathy programs in the United States, with generous support from the John and Nancy Sabol Foundation and the Kirlin Charitble Foundation.

  • The Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences at the University of Washington is conducting one of the first brain-based research studies on children participating in the Roots of Empathy - and Seeds of Empathy - programs. Neurophysiological evaluations will entail both structural (MRI) and functional (MEG brain imaging) changes associated with participation in the program.

  • Mary Gordon participated in a panel discussion amidst an audience of 50,000 with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the 2008 Seeds of Compassion event in Seattle, Washington. One of three separate audiences Gordon has had with the Dalai Lama in recent years, you can read more about the event here.

  • Roots of Empathy programs in Washington State are supported by The Einhorn Family Charitable Trust, and the John and Nancy Sabol Foundation.
